Understanding Different Types of Workplace Harassment

Workplace harassment is understood or downplayed because some of them don’t have physical evidence, but we can’t deny the fact that they exist.

These harassments can become chronic without much intervention and probably lead to life-altering problems like lowered self-esteem, sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction, anxiety, headaches, etc.

There are much such harassment that you need to know to help you overcome such problems in your workplace as early as possible.

Well, the article below will help you understand different types of workplace harassment and probably the best way to overcome.

Ready! Let’s go.

  1. Psychological Harassment

Psychological harassment is one of the types of workplace harassment. It appears more covert and consists of tactics such as withholding information. Psychological harassment features making impossible demands, imposing deadlines on the employees, or even forcing employees to work outside their job scopes.

Moreover, according to the work place harassment attorney, the victims who undergo such harassment are likely to suffer from low self-esteem, mental breakdowns, undermine themselves, etc.

  1. Cyberbullying/Digital Harassment

Another type of workplace harassment is cyberbullying or digital harassment. We are living in a generation where digital devices are commonplace, and the use of social platforms has become a daily routine in a couple of workplaces.

With the freedom of speech, anyone can harass anyone by either making fake personas, posting embarrassing photos, spreading mean rumors, or sending hurting messages, among others.

The good news about digital harassment is that the victims can easily document the evidence for further actions. Therefore, if you’re caught in this harassment, you can report by presenting tangible evidences such as saved emails, messages, and screenshots.

  1. Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment also finds itself among the top types of workplace harassment. It’s one of the heinous types of harassment in most workplaces. Since many believe that the offense is specifically against women, failing to understand that a person belonging to any gender can be the perpetrator of this heinous crime.

According to data taken by ZipRecruiter Survey reveal that about 14% of male respondents and 40% of female respondents have experienced sexual harassment by asking for sexual favors, comments like vulgar gestures, or unwanted touching.

Although some of these harassments go unnoticed due to lack of physical evidence, you must report it when you feel harassed.

  1. Verbal Harassment

This is another form of workplace harassment today. It is toxic harassment as it threatens both the career and health of an employee. The harassment consists of unwanted criticisms, offensive gestures, and demeaning slurs.

Verbal harassment is an excellent example of non-physical violence that carries secretive tactics like hurtful comments, insults, and unwanted taunting that mostly go unnoticed. This means that you must be ready to report, or HR managers and leaders should be vigilant to notice such behaviors.

Final Word

As we come to our conclusion, a harassment-free workplace eradicates toxicity. This plays a vital role in employee engagement which finally increases job productivity. You must ensure your workplace has nothing to do with harassment.

We hope that this article has played a role in making you understand different types of workplace harassment. Still, you can carry research and fish out more types of workplace harassment.
